iPad Blogging

Being my first blog post from my brand new iPad I am still getting used to this soft keyboard. It is actually very nice to use. One of my original peeves was the non tactile feeling and sound. Well with the clicking that I have turned on it actually satisfies the sound need. The feeling though is still kind of odd, but is something I have no problem getting used to. The keyboard is very spacious and I make very little mistakes. Since I don't actually use the standered way of typing on a regular keyboard. I usually just stare at the keys anyway, with the soft keyboard I am required to stare at the keyboard. So my typing speed has transferred. Also the auto correct works rather well. More reviews to come soon. I plan on blogging a lot more often now that I have an app that makes it so much easier.

Windows Terminal?

i am using a public terminal to type this with.

the entire purpose for getting on this windows machine at work is so that i could print off my pay stub. but they have it locked down so i cannot even save a document to the desktop to allow me to email it myself. i would try my flash drive but it is in my locker downstairs and i don't feel like walking all the way down there just so when i try it i am not able to access it. the reason i would need to email it to myself is because there is not a printer connected to either of these terminals because of the simple fact that people would destroy their ink reserves here at the hospital.

there used to be the library here that had printers, that associates could enter using their ID badges. since they renovated it, they have blocked out anyone who is not a Doctor from using the library. apparently the doc's were getting pissed they had to share their library with the other staff from the hospital. i would try and get my pay stubs at home but their website only works in IE, which is beyond stupid. i have a mac and there is not an IE for Macintosh. so i am restricted to a windows machine to check my pay stubs. they don't even allow for FireFox to access their website. what a brilliant idea Promedica web programmer.

so now i have to attempt to connect a printer to my windows partition on my mac just so i can print out a pay stub. kind of lame that the security on these terminals is so extreme. why not just allow for desktop saving of documents, but when the machine logs off it restores to the default empty desktop. this way i at least could email myself the saved HTML of the websites that contain my pay stubs.

i went to put a picture on this post and apparently i am not even allowed to open a new window. how lame is that. also i just found out i cannot create a document in google documents either. i fail to see the reason for those two things to be disallowed.

also, this keyboard fucking blows.

People?

I will never understand the need for people to bother other people. I
am sitting next to the window on my lunch break eating my turkey
sandwich. I am trying to enjoy my break. The room has a huge capacity
and is barely filled with people. So these two people decided to come
and sit directly behind me. What the fuck is wrong with you people.
Their are plenty of seats. If you wanted to sit next to the window
there are plenty of window seats too. Worst of all the damn lady is
talking about some giant needle her husband had put in his chest here
at the hospital. Seriously people what is wrong with you.

Update:
they both received phone calls from unnecessarily loud cellphones, and are both talking on their phones in two seperate pointless conversations....I moved across the room.

Dweebed?

Update on Dweebed:

we have been kind of keeping Dweebed on the back burner for a while for a couple of reasons. Steve has had a lot on his plate and has been really busy with all his stuff and since he does like 90% of the work on the site i have been unable or really not willing to try and add some stuff to the site. we are working to bring a new design to the site and change a few things to hopefully attract some more people to the site.

Old Google Searches?

one of the more frustrating things about searching for information on the internet is when for instance a piece of information is widely excepted and therefore is the only thing one can find. am example of this is today i wanted to try and figure out a way to stream music from my itunes to my iphone(should already work, but doesn't for some dumb reason). almost everyone says to try SimplifyMedia. well thats fantastic except for the fact that the company has removed the app from the appstore and stopped supporting the app for their servers. the public announcement goes like this,

"After developing the technology behind Simplify Media for over 4 years, it is time for us to take it in a new direction. In order to focus on this transition, we will no longer be offering the current software to new users. Today we are removing the Simplify iPhone applications from the App Store, and new account creation will be disabled shortly after that. However, existing Simplify accounts and clients will continue to work fine."

so since most of the internets say that i should use an app that no longer exists, there is no other viable option available, since everyone agreed that was the best way. its not like someone is going to go around the web and inform everyone to update their 3 year old blog posts that the app doesn't exist any longer. so now the giant series of tubes that is the internet are all clogged with inaccurate data leading me to just give up on yet another technology adventure.

Blog Post?

i wish i could write a book. i feel like i have some great ideas, but whenever i start to write, i am like "this is terrible, a 5 year old could type something up that is more coherent". so i inevitable give up and feel like a failure for even trying. so ya. wish my xbox wasn't broken.

also for the very few who visit this site, i also updated my site to a more pleasing color and template. now people wont get nauseated while reading, or look away and see those squiggly after marks from looking at mono-colors too long.

AppleTV Syncing Issues?

What a mess. I have an AppleTV and a 2TB drive full of media. What I want to do is have an easy way to stream all of my content to my AppleTV so when I move into my apartment anyone can watch whatever they want on the AppleTV at any point in time. But of course there are 4 problems that are keeping me from achieving this.

  1. I could plug the hard drive into a computer and stream it through iTunes on that computer. Problem is I only have a laptop. So if I ever want to go anywhere with my computer no one can view content on the AppleTV.
  2. I could use the usb drive on the back of the Airport router from apple and stream everything that way. Problem here is the transfer rate is insanely slow. Like unbelievably slow. So because it is so slow it is not only painful to add content to the drive, but the artwork for the content takes a very long time to load on the AppleTV. Plus this also requires me to have iTunes open on my laptop at all times, and have my laptop on the network at all times.
  3. I could do what I am doing now in my parents house, and have a stationary computer dedicated to running iTunes for the AppleTV. However I cannot afford to just buy a mac mini (because I am not using a windows machine).
  4. I could use the USB port on the back of the AppleTV by hacking the device. Only problem here is the app used to hack the usb port, nitotv, no longer exists. All of the How-To websites tell me to use this app that no longer exists, which is extremely frustrating.

It just seems like all this could be solved if apple stopped treating the AppleTV like a damn hobby and make it work to its potential. Stop forcing me to tether the device to one computer. Especially when that one computer is a laptop that is not always there to allow for streaming. Or apple could stop being little bitches about that damn usb port on the back and let me expand the storage beyond the measly 160 GB they have internally.
